Mills Wins, Meier Tenth |

Former sportsman standout Clinton Mills, and Bob McGannon, a graduate from the full-fendered class, squared off on the front row of the 30-lap big block modified feature at Orange County Fair speedway. Both drivers held their positions for most of the race. A three-car crash on the third turn halted the race on lap eight when Dave Franek, Mike Kolka, and Jeremy Markle tangled on the third turn. Markle’s car did a slow roll, bringing the red flag. Mills was in the process of stretching his lead when the mishap occurred.
On the restart, McGannon overtook Mills while the rest of the field battled for positions. McGannon and Mills ran one-two, with Collin Jackson, Chris Whitehead, and Jeff Heotzler, Jr. in hot pursuit. Whitehead passed Jackson on lap ten to gain the third spot, while Heotzler, Jr. held off the charging Hearn.
Mills passed McGannon on the outside of turn four on the twenty-fifth lap, taking the lead for the first time since lap eight.
On lap 28, Frank Jashembowski spun coming out of turn four, coming to rest on the outside retaining wall, bringing the second caution of the contest. The green flag signaled a two-lap showdown.
Mills held off McGannon’s challnge to win his first big block modified feature. Whitehead, Jackson, and Heotzler, Jr. rounded out the top five.
“It’s been a long time since I stood in Victory Lane . It’s good to just get this out of the way. I want to thank Gary Edwards, Sr. for this opportunity. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be standing here. Running a big block modified versus a sportsman is a whole lot different, and more! I’m racing with some of the best drivers and equipment anywhere. Having an extra ten laps of racing made the difference,” said Mills.
