Bruce Kline has been spending more time working on his son's car than his own this season, but given the chance to take home a modified victory at Orange County Fair Speedway, he got the job done.
Kline started on the pole and rolled to his first win, beating Clinton Mills on Saturday night. Division leader Chuck McKee, Mike Kolka and Ric Hill rounded out the top five.
Tommy Meier had trailed McKee by 10 points but finished last, falling out on lap seven, and now trails McKee by 42. Mitch Gibbs is 52 points behind and Jerry Higbie Jr. is 56 points back.
Jake Schlagel edged Frank Venezia by 0.735 seconds and Mike Ruggiero by 0.949 seconds in the sportsman feature. It was Schlagel's first win of the season. Defending champ Ruggiero moved back into the points lead with 520. Matt Hitchcock fell out of first with his 12th-place effort, and has 514.
Pole-sitter Tim McCarthy nipped Steve Galgano by 0.617 seconds and John Velde by 1.057 seconds to claim the pro stock feature. Only seven of the 14 starters were still running at the end. Division leader Bill Pascual and runner-up Mike Dutka were both disqualified.
Tom Vigh nipped Bill Pascual in the holdover pro stock event.
Mike Vigiletti was awarded the veteran pure stock win and Mike Consales earned the amateur pure stock victory. Emerson Cargain Sr. finished last in the eight-car veteran division, but inched closer to the championship — he leads by 86 points with seven races to go. |
